Ed Hartman - The River (LP)
Seattle based percussionist Ed Hartman wandered deep into the Pacific Coast forest listening to the layers of fascinating sounds he found there. He had an epiphany and decided he would take his marimbas and vibraphones with him, playing along to those immersive natural sounds. The River, released in 1986 is a document, partly recorded in the woods, of compositions and improvisations inspired by that environment. The result is a singular album of marimbas, vibraphones, gongs, field recordings and synth that parallel the personal percussion odysseys of Midori Takada, Kimber / Keliehor and Bobby Brown.
