Ellen Zweig & John Di Stefano - We Must All Be Explorers (Cassette)
Dream collaboration between poet Ellen Zweig, and DIY cassette pioneer John Di Stefano, from 1986. The work was commissioned by the Falkirk Community Cultural Centre in San Rafael California, and was the result of immersive research amongst old photographs and stories about the original Falkirk inhabitants’ travels to Asia, combined with research on the French explorer Alexandra David-Neel’s travel to Lhasa disguised as a Tibetan pilgrim. Zweig’s words and Di Stefano’s electronics are accompanied by field recordings made by Di Stefano on his trip to Lhasa the previous year. We Must all Be Explorers was first premiered as a multi-media event using slides, film, video, music, text and performance. Very rare cassette, only 30 copies ever produced.
