John Etnier - Arterial (LP)
Maine composer and producer John Etnier made Arterial for a contemporary dance performance at the Portland Performing Arts Center in 1984. Although the performance itself is lost, we are lucky enough to have this audio document made from the tapes used in the actual performance. Utilizing synthesizers, marimbas, percussion, bird calls, children’s voices and other instruments Etnier composed long continuous soundscapes that flow effortlessly between movements. Etnier achieves a wonderfully suspended mood reminiscent of 80s Japanese ambient artists such as Hiroshi Yoshimura and Motohiko Hamase. Thanks to Jed Bindeman for the tip on this!
