Released nearly a decade after their debut, Vernal Equinox’s elusive follow up Music for Art Galleries was commissioned as a soundtrack for an Art Gallery of Ontario exhibition based around Margaret Atwood’s re-release of The Journals of Susanna Moodie featuring the paintings of Charles Pachter. The album, mostly a solo endeavour by Tim Rempel this time, sees VE wrapped in gauzy FM synths and delay-heavy guitars, but still grounded in VE’s characteristic Ontario ambiance (with a nod to Montreal). Steve Brenner plays on a re-make of Motion of Sound, an outtake from the duo’s original New Found World Sessions. Essential Canadiana.
